Logistics automation specialist Swisslog has received a major order from Ikea Supply in Malaysia, the firm has revealed.
Ikea Supply is responsible for the overall supply chain of Ikea products to Ikea franchises, globally; owning many distribution centres around the world.
One such distribution centre will be located at Pulai Indah in Selangor, Malaysia, planned to be the largest regional distribution centre in the Asia Pacific region run by Inter Ikea — the parent company of Ikea Supply.
In addition to its proximity to all stores in the Southeast Asian region, the location is well-known for its well-developed infrastructure.
The 95,000-square metre centre will be equipped with an estimated storage capacity of 192,800 cubic metres with Vectura pallet stacker cranes and Swisslog’s SynQ warehouse management system (WMS) software.
“I am proud that Inter Ikea and Ikea Supply Malaysia are trusting Swisslog with this major project,” said Dr Christian Baur, CEO of Swisslog Logistics Automation. “We place immense focus on supporting our customers to meet their business goals.”
“With our capabilities in covering the entire automation value chain with robotic and data-driven automated solutions that create exceptional value for businesses, we are convinced that we will continue to meet the long-term demands of Ikea and we look forward to building on this relationship,” added Baur.
Swisslog Malaysia was selected for its local experience in implementing pallet warehouse solutions for major projects, industry software expertise, and strong global reputation, according to Inter Ikea.
In particular, Swisslog’s SynQ provides a platform for the Malaysian Ikea distribution centre, orchestrating the interaction of individual robotics, warehouse technologies and people to provide highly effective order fulfilment processes.
By integrating intelligence into the operations and synchronising the performance of both automated and manual warehouse equipment, businesses can expect greater improvements in workflow efficiency and productivity.
“Another reason that we selected Swisslog as our automation partner is their advancements in data-driven automation solutions,” said Antonio Machado, project manager at Ikea Supply Malaysia.
“The modular architecture of their intelligent SynQ software will help transform our data into actionable intelligence in order to support us in analysing and optimising our warehouse performance,” added Machado.
“When this project is completed, Ikea Supply Malaysia will become the digital hub of advanced, automated intralogistics in this region,” he added.
