Honeywell has implemented Asia’s first Connected Plant Asset Performance at its Kodama turbocharger plant. Allowing its Transportation Systems business, that will soon branch out as Garrett Motion Inc, to analyse and optimise energy usage of the whole plant and all connected field devices.
As a centrally managed software as a Service (SaaS) solution that is cloud based, not only does the Connected Plant technology require minimal infrastructure and maintenance investment, it also is vendor neutral and possesses pre-configured templates for rapid deployment. Yasuhiro Kinoshita, country leader of Honeywell Transportation Systems, Japan, has said “With Asset Performance, we can monitor asset performance details and for example detect air leaks in the manufacturing units, which directly allows us to reduce energy usage and avoid excess cost.”.
Through a three stage process that involves data collection, processing and analysis from over 70 field devices, the Connected Plant technology is able to forecast energy consumption levels and integrate it into a third party ISO 50001 energy management solution. This allows for data driven optimisation of energy consumption during production which in turn enhances operations, predicts plant failures and eliminates unintended shutdowns.
