The vision: to implement sustainability, resilience and competitiveness of industry faster and better through innovative, digital and data-based solutions. This requires a cultural change and a new level of digital cooperation across company and national borders. The implementation of the Manufacturing-X initiative is at the heart of the activities of Plattform Industrie 4.0.
In recent years, Plattform Industrie 4.0 and its network have further developed essential building blocks for Industry 4.0. The platform’s booth shows how these can interact and create innovative data spaces. The new Manufacturing-X initiative, which was launched under the umbrella of Plattform Industrie 4.0 together with companies, associations, science and politics, builds on what has been achieved. The aim is to create a cross-sectoral, interoperable data space for industry. Industrial equipment suppliers and user industries are to work closely together.
At the Hannover Messe, the platform invites European and international partners to participate in Manufacturing-X right from the start. Top-class guests from all over the world will discuss the global initiative and current developments in production at the traditional Leaders’ Dialogue.
Essential foundations for the implementation of data-based solutions are digital sovereignty, standards and applications suitable for SMEs. With the digital twin or administration shell, Plattform Industrie 4.0 has advanced a central global standard. The IDTA (Industrial Digital Twin Association) and SCI4.0 (Standardization Council Industrie 4.0) show how the administration shell can already be used in practice. The LNI 4.0 (Labs Network Industrie 4.0) presents itself as an intermediary for SMEs.
Above all, Gaia-X stands for digital sovereignty, which has generated considerable momentum in digital transformation in recent years: Numerous projects are developing solutions in which a trustworthy, self-determined and secure data exchange according to Gaia-X standards is lived. Catena-X is particularly well-known, which will present live the operation of the first industrial-grade solutions for the automotive supply chain.
With Manufacturing-X, the great opportunities offered by digitalization for climate-neutral solutions, resilient value chains and competitiveness can be realized. Use cases are, for example, the calculation of the digital footprint, circular economy, energy management or the traceability and transparency of supply chains to improve quality or control supply chains. The approaches and solutions developed in Catena-X for the automotive sector are to be taken up and made usable for the entire industry. The interoperability of different data rooms and the openness of the systems are central guidelines.
The Industrie 4.0 platform will continue to expand its network and provide the space to develop pre-competitive solutions and promote the development of an international Manufacturing-X community. European countries and also Japan and Korea, for example, have already expressed great interest in Manufacturing-X – a good basis for dialogue at the Hannover Messe.
Dr. Robert Habeck, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection:
“The industry is facing the mammoth task of digital and sustainable transformation in globally challenging times: Manufacturing-X is a key project that we want to advance together with our international partners in the coming years. We need cooperation and commitment from business, science and politics in order to be able to exploit the opportunities of digitization quickly and jointly.”
Bettina Stark-Watzinger, Federal Minister of Education and Research:
“The Industry 4.0 platform shows how important the interaction of research and transfer is: Here, technologies and concepts from research and development are further developed into innovations for practical application based on the needs of companies. The Industry 4.0 data space draws its strength from this connection and is the starting point for the networked value creation of the future.”
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Siegfried Russwurm, BDI President:
“The Industry 4.0 success story that originated in Germany is a mosaic with many building stones. With Manufacturing-X for industrial data rooms, we are adding a new authoritative piece in the mosaic. Thanks to our industrial expertise, we will continue to be at the forefront of the international competition for the best digital solutions.”
Henrik A. Schunk, Managing Partner, CEO, SCHUNK GmbH & Co. KG, Chairman of the Industry 4.0 Platform Steering Committee:
“Sustainability, efficiency pressure and the desire for transparent value chains are driving digitalization. However, the prerequisite is a secure data ecosystem in which all companies along the value chain can network. The frame was defined with Manufacturing-X. Now we have to translate our vision into viable solutions in which small and medium-sized enterprises can participate on an equal footing.”
Background
Presence at Hannover Messe 2023
Visitors are cordially invited to the joint stand of Plattform Industrie 4.0 and its cooperation partners (Hall 8, Stand D26) to get to know concrete Industry 4.0 solutions that point the way to a data ecosystem. The partners are the Initiative Manufacturing-X, Catena-X, Gaia-X, the Labs Network Industrie 4.0 (LNI 4.0), the Standardization Council Industrie 4.0 (SCI 4.0), the Industrial Digital Twin Association e.V. (IDTA), the Gaia-X Federation Services and the Gaia-X Hub Germany.
Among other things, approaches will be presented that support the transformation of industrial value creation towards greater sustainability and resilience. In addition to information about the implementation status of Manufacturing-X and the future activities of the initiative, various exhibits make Industry 4.0 technologies tangible in practice and show their added value. Examples are the demonstrator Explotector of the Gaia-X Hub Germany with the use case “Ammunition in the Sea” or the demonstrator “Further Development Energy Monitoring” of IDTA. There are also many exciting insights on a journey through time through the various development stages of Industry 4.0.
The central event of the Plattform Industrie 4.0 is the Leaders’ Dialogue on 18 April from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with the title: “Next level of Industrie 4.0 – can digital ecosystems push resilience and sustainability?”.
All journalists are cordially invited to visit the joint stand and participate in the events. If you have any questions or arrange interviews on site, please contact the press contact at any time.
