A Night Race To Remember

A Night Race To Remember
Spread the love

Ask a Formula 1 fan which is the most intriguing race of the year and you are likely to hear the two common responses – Monaco and Singapore Grand Prix – Monaco for its tight street circuit and Singapore for being the original and iconic destination for F1 night race!

Very few sports can boast a history as rich, vibrant and fascinating as Formula 1. From the early years to the Formula 1 we know and love today, it’s probably fair to say that more things have changed than have stayed the same.

Long gone are the grainy, black and white footage of previous eras, as today’s ultra-high definition (UHD) multi-colour spectacle emerge to capture the attention of a global audience of around 1.3 billion people.

Singapore Grand Prix itself has witnessed revolutionary trials by Tata Communications – first ever end-to-end broadcast of a Formula 1 race in UHD in 2016 and in 2017 test of a truly live 360° video to augment the fan experience.

Tata communications provides technology across the Formula 1 ecosystem, including Formula 1 itself, Mercedes-AMG Petronas, ROKiT Williams Racing and Sky Sports.

Focusing on The Present

Committed in going beyond a usual broadcast, we are working to provide a stable and trusted platform that pushes the sport to be more popular and profitable. With a stable connection, operations can run smoothly, and fans can be immersed in an all rounded experience.

On top of that, online content can also see an improvement as quality content uploads can be quicker, better and seamlessly accessible across various time zones.

As connections remain stable, efficiencies are improved, and these allow race engineers to focus on the task at hand. For instance, drivers can seamlessly speak to race engineers thousands of miles away from the track, like they were actually there. With a sensor in the cockpit, engineers can advise them and calibrate a pit stop in the right window to avoid an overcut from the rival team.

Unbeknownst to the millions watching from home, race strategy is decided based on live data collected from the car. It can turn a place on the podium into a consummate victory. And all enabled by lightning-fast managed connectivity. With the drivers and remote technicians perfectly in sync, the data’s journey is one of both epic proportions and speed.

Looking Towards the Future

Not only with Formula 1, we are working towards uniquely bringing together media and digital advancements to reimagine the live sports experience across the ecosystem – MotoGP, European PGA, India Premier League (IPL), Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) to name a few. Collaboration with different partners – sports organisations, broadcasters, digital providers, sponsors, is helping the company transform the fan experience from casual viewing to active engagement.

We are leveraging disruptive technologies like remote production, intelligent automation, Internet of Things (IoT), augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), to revamp and make the fan experience more immersive, creating that special ‘all-access pass’ experience which is priceless for any fan.
